|PotteryDaily.com was founded in 2009 by ceramic artist Heather C. Morrow. Discovery a love of clay, she wanted to find a creative way to share not only her talents, but also those talents of the ceramic artists she was meeting on her journey. She also wanted to bring the functional ceramic arts back into the homes and hearts of art patrons.
When a potter picks up a piece of clay and transforms it on a wheel or by sculpting, there is a creative energy that is transferred from the artist to the piece that makes it far more valuable than something mass manufactured.
There is also a connection with the earth in a tradition that supersedes all other art forms. Pottery was initially created to be functional – to hold and/or carry food and water; however, as human imagination took over, the form became more elaborate with surface decoration and other enhancements distinguishing an everyday jar from an urn for ashes of a loved one.
As demand for more sophisticated vessels increased, the occupation of potter was born. Largely viewed as a craft, in recent times there have been many potters who have transcended to create true works of art from a piece of the earth.
We hope you will visit PotteryDaily.com, often as the creations will be refreshed daily with innovative ceramic art to transform your everyday life.
